This summer, we have decided to make kids’ free time more educational. Rather than just playing toys, cards, and board games, we have started giving out a summer free time booklet to our kids. This maximizes their time in Yumekirara doing more English-related activities. The booklet includes summer word lists, word games and puzzles, sudoku, and coloring pages. Every day, they have to answer a page from the booklet and have it checked with their teachers. When checking teachers ask them to read or repeat reading for unfamiliar words. Then, the teacher stamps their booklet with their chosen stamps – Disney characters.

Some kids take this activity more seriously and they color the pictures nicely. Most kids rely on the pictures when reading so, next time I’ll make it matching type of pictures and words. For first and second graders, we are doing tracing because we want them to improve their writing skills.
