The Power of Stickers

With almost 70 diverse kids of different personalities and multiple intelligences how do we maintain good classroom management in Yumekirara School.

Every day, we get roughly 30 to about 45 kids attending English lessons here at Yumekirara. Some of the kids come early after their respective school dismissal. So, we have ample interaction time before the lesson starts at around 4:00 pm.

Having free time is vital for children’s growth and development in school. They get to learn social interactions, build rapport with new people, and learn how to compromise.

Recently, with more than the usual number of kids (since we offer make up lessons) some of them get to interact with kids from different days. For most, it’s a good opportunity to social interact, but having many kids could also mean a lot noisier environment, and also after snack time, it tends to be untidier with some kids not wanting to clean up. So, how do we cope?

To resolve this kind of situation and the chaos, I have come up with reward system! And by reward, I mean giving out of stickers. I introduced the stickers to everyone during their lesson and told them they can collect as much and put the stickers on their green file or writing compilation’s cover. I was so surprised of its’ power! From the challenging tasks of making them behave well, it’s such a great rescue!

When I reported it to some parents during pick up, they were glad to hear their children did something great that day and one parent even mentioned how his daughter love collecting stickers.

This will also make the kids give more importance of their green file, cherish and take more good care of it.

I just hope we don’t run out of ideas of maintaining good classroom management! Anyway, we are teachers so, we will always find ways!
