I just got back from a one-week vacation visiting my sister in Niigata, and my heart is so full. It was one of the absolute best trips we have ever had together. From stunning nature to incredible food, every single day was packed with unforgettable memories.
We kicked off the vacation on Sunday night with a fireworks display at the Niigata Festival. The next day, we explored Niigata’s local culture and beautiful summer scenery, visiting Yahiko Shrine and enjoying a delicious dinner at Kappou Oshokuji Yoshidaya. We also spent a wonderful afternoon wandering through the Agricultural and Jomon Experience Center Najomon, which featured a vibrant sunflower maze. Standing among thousands of tall, bright yellow flowers felt completely magical and provided the perfect backdrop for photos.
Mid-week, we packed our bags for an exciting three-day getaway to neighboring Nagano. We went to Zenkoji Temple, but the absolute highlight for me was visiting Lake Kizaki. It was my first time swimming in fresh lake water! We also made our way to the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park and found the cutest monkeys playing around and grooming each other right in front of us.
After returning from the mountains, we headed to Sekiya Beach the next day to soak up the coastal vibes. We had so much fun swimming, finding small fish near the shore, and relaxing on the sand. It was the perfect way to cool down and enjoy the classic Japanese summer experience together.
On my last day, my sister treated me to an amazing farewell meal at a local Vietnamese restaurant. We caught up over steaming, savory bowls of pho and perfectly crispy banh mi, reflecting on how wonderful the week had been. I am so grateful for these moments shared with my sister.
