Transforming our school walls for the upcoming season shouldn’t require buying expensive, store-bought displays. 

Instead, I asked our students to become designers by drawing pictures for their new summer vocabulary wall. 

Kids feel a deep sense of pride when they see their personal illustrations pinned to the walls. 

Visual learners benefit immensely from matching vivid, hand-drawn images with new seasonal terms like “portable shrine” or “festival stall/booth.”

Months ago, this was a bare wall, but it has suddenly become a colorful, student-centered gallery of seasonal vocabulary that kids can use to describe upcoming events or even talk about their plans for summer vacation.  

Whenever I see our class walls, I am reminded of our kids’ collective creativity. 

Ultimately, this collaborative decoration strategy turns abstract vocabulary definitions into memorable, visual celebrations of summer.
