Finally, I was able to maximize one corner of our school and used it as an English interactive nook. In this corner, I’ll put up monthly events with some fun and engaging games, vocabulary builder, tongue twisters, and short reading comprehension about a particular event we’re holding or celebrating.
This month is for Halloween. For vocabulary builder, I put up an activity where kids will write Halloween vocabs using pictures. For first graders, since we’re doing phonics and initial letter recognition, they’ll write the first letter of each vocab on the whiteboard.
I also put up a simple tongue twister about Halloween. Some kids have already accepted the challenge and recited the tongue twisters. They got a reward after which were mostly snacks that they can bring and eat home.
Previously, this corner was used for our Yumekirara Tree with kids’ names written leaves, cherry blossoms, and snowflakes. However, I thought of maximizing this space to something that kids can use the language. To make them more engaged, I rewarded them with some snacks which they really enjoy.
I look forward to changing this nook every now and make it more interactive.
