We held a special summer week on July 3rd to July 7th. During this week, students invited their friends to attend the class with them. It was a great opportunity to meet other kids and show them how engaging and fun the lessons and activities are at our school. So, I made sure to plan ahead different lessons that they will surely enjoy.
I prepared three different lessons about summer activities. On the first two days, the lesson was about water activities. Kids learn additional vocabulary on what they could do in summer. On the third day, they learned English words of things they could bring to the beach. Finally on the last two days, they learned about activities they could do at the beach such as finding starfish, collecting shells, and making a sandcastle to name a few.
I also made a writing activity for each lesson. Once they finish the writing activity, other teachers will check their reading as well as their comprehension of the lesson. Teachers would teach and clarify vocabulary and the target expressions.
Teacher Akiko and I also conducted storytelling lessons at our affiliated nursery schools. It was so much fun and a great experience for me to handle and read a story to very young kids. I enjoyed it a lot, especially when we taught them the songs. Most of the kids can’t speak yet but they tried to imitate our actions. Those who can already speak also tried their best to use simple English words in class and were able to follow the activities we planned through modeling.
It was indeed a hectic week but with everyone’s help and collaboration, we were able to finish the assigned tasks with smiles on our faces. New experiences bring so much to learn!
